Small dog carriers become a must in our on-the-go society. Dogs are an increasing part of our lives, and keeping them at home is becoming more and more out of the question. Therefore having a way to transport them, when they are with us becomes a more desirable option. There are two basic kinds of small dog carriers. Those carriers approved for use when we fly and those for use while driving and / or walking. The biggest distinction between small dog carriers for the airlines is the carriers are non-collapsible. They also feature stainless steel wire openings for ventilation. Outside of that everything else in an on a small dog carrier is the same.
Some minimum requirements for them is there is room enough for the dog to move around and comfort for the pet when in the carrier. Most small dog carriers will have a center anchored strap which allows the dog to turn around without getting entangled in the strap. If the dog cannot do that, the carrier is too small. The ideal carrier is one where the dog can turn around, if there is more room than that then the carrier is too large and will defeat the reason for the carrier. One needs to keep in mind, dogs are clean animals and will not use the potty in the same space they live. So, get a carrier big enough, but not too big.
There is no end to the style. From back pack, stroller, purse, across body tote, and messenger bag (across the chest) totes the dog owners requirements should be satisfied. Prices will range from $20.00 to $400.00, any budget will be able to afford one.
There are many features. Some of the high priority safety features to consider will depend on the desires of the small dog owner. If the small dog carrier will be primarily used in the automobile, then features like being able to be strapped to the car seat like a baby carrier is available. For the on the go person, who will be carrying the small dog carrier, some come with wheels and collapsible handles like airline luggage. Others feature backpack, across the chest messenger styles or sling styles. They all feature accessory pockets and mesh windows for the pet to look out of. Some feature open and close claps allowing the pet to stick their head out the top of the carrier.
They come in all types of material. Leather is not a big featured material, largely due to cleaning ability, but if one wants leather, it is available. Mostly fabrics like denim, cotton / poly blend, natural canvas and faux leathers are featured. The interiors offer quilted, fake fur, and berber. Pets, while in the carrier, especially if they are traveling need to have a toy to keep them from getting bored. Accessory pouches are also found on the better small dog carriers. The closures range from zippers to Velcro. Size as far as the weight of the dog vary from just a few pounds to 10 pound dogs.
