Indian Baby Names

baby sling

Basically, the Indian baby names are based on religion and caste. There are wide variety of language and religion in India. As a matter of fact, most religion has a huge following in India like Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Hindus.

many Indians believes in birth name. Now, the birth name is totally different from the given or first name. Using horoscope, they can determine an auspicious number. The number is use to help find the best birth name. The given or first name is the official names. It is the name that is use to call someone. In a legal and official document, it is mandatory to use the given or first name.

The caste system is made popular through Hinduism. The caste system tells the hereditary classes in Hindu society, social stratification, and prestige. The Indians from upper caste uses the village names, occupations, honorifics, title, and clan as the last name. The sub caste last names are the descriptions or characteristics of the sub caste.

Parts of the last name are the caste or sub caste. For example, Iyer, Iyengar, Gounder, Nair, Naidu, Reddy, Gouda, and Shetty are several last names with caste or sub caste. The caste can tell the occupation. For example, the Gandhi is a caste which sells perfumes. Mohandas Gandhi is from the caste of Gandhi. The concept is similar to Gardiner (takes care of the garden), and Sawyer (saws wood) in English baby names.

The Sikhs has adapted the Singh. It means lion. Most of the time, the Singh is use as a suffix for male. For example, Veejay Singh (golf master) and Dr manmohan Singh (Prime Minister) uses the Singh. The female counterpart of Singh is Kaur which means princess or lioness. However, Singh is not a caste name. In Sikhs, there is no caste.

On the hand, the Hindus have caste. The castes on the last name are often Jain, Thakurs, and Rajputs.

The Kar on the name tells the origin of the baby name. For example, Gavaskar (town of Gavas), Tendulkar (town of Tendol), and Pawaskar (town of Pawas) tells the town of origin.

The Wala on the Indian baby names tells the type of profession or merchant. For example, Screwala holds the screw, and cyclewala sells the cycle.

The social ranks on the Indian baby names are common practice as well. For example, Talukdar means the landholder, Tehsildar means the revenue administrative officer, and Tarafdar means the land manager.

In the past, the locals of South India use only first name which is village name, family name, or both. Rarely, you will see middle name, family name, or initials. In fact, the Telugu locals use the hometown or profession as the first name. However, the Tamil Nadu and Kerala locals use the first name of the father as the second name. For example, Ajith Krisma means Ajith son of Krisma. Suppose Ajith produce a son, the Indian baby name is Minesh Ajith. It means Minesh song of Ajith. The wife usually gets the name of the husband. For example, Jilana Krisma is the original name which means Jilana daughter of Krisma. She married Rajesh. The name of wife becomes Jilana Rajesh which means Jilana wife of Rajesh.

The initials on the last name are use for the same baby name. So, someone can tell the difference from another name. For example, Ajith Rajesh looks like R. Ajith, and Ajith Santhum looks like S. Ajith. The initials always start before the first name. For many westerners, they easily makes mistake on expanding the name. For example, S. Ajith may expand as Santhum Ajith. That is wrong, because Santhum becomes the first name.

Newborn Baby Care, Guard Against Brain Damage, Support Baby's Head

baby sling

I want to stress how important it is to support any baby's head when lifting and carrying them because it isn't well known how much damage can be unwittingly inflicted on tiny and helpless infants.

I believe every mother of a newborn is given this advice as soon as she first moves to lift her baby. "Support his/her head". All mothers realise that for the baby's sake, they must do this, but the danger is that not everyone in families heeds this advice and it isn't just uncomfortable for the unsupported baby - It's very dangerous.

No-one would deliberately risk a baby's health but many folk don't know it isn't just about the baby's comfort, it's about possible - and highly likely - brain damage, which can be slight or devastating.

The danger area, or weakness, in a baby is the point where the brain meets the spinal cord. A rocking motion with the head unsupported can cause some damage to the part of the spinal cord that controls breathing.

So a child born completely healthy can be injured in this way without anyone realising. The result is brain damage to some degree and a harder life for the child from thereon.

Obviously colicky babies are at extra risk because they need a lot more lifting and carrying, usually by a parent who is exhausted and exasperated by the hours of crying.

Researchers who examined the brains of children who were thought to have been killed by violent shaking discovered that even mild shaking can cause damage to the nerve fibres that control breathing. The lack of oxygen makes the brain swell and can easily cause some degree of brain damage or even death.

When we speak of brain damaged folk I guess most of us think of brain damage to an extreme degree but it doesn't always mean a wheelchair and 24 hour care.

Indeed it can be slight enough to just affect a child's intelligence, reaction speed, co-ordination or indeed anything the brain is wonderfully designed to control, but even this kind of damage is bound to make a big difference to the quality of life the child would then lead.

Rough play with a baby before it can even crawl is extremely dangerous and everyone who is likely to be involved in the care of a new baby needs to be made aware of this. Also they must be advised to take care to always support the newborn's head when walking with baby in their arms, and the reason explained clearly.

I find it very worrying because on several occasions during my own life I've seen people lift a baby without supporting the head and have quickly said "Support its head" and I think of the thousands of babies who had no-one there to help them out with that extremely important advice.

In an effort to keep helpless babies safe we need to have warnings and advice about supporting a baby's head printed on packs of diapers and baby formula, just as warnings about the dangers to health are printed on packs of cigarettes and tobacco.

Adults make their own choices about risk-taking with their health or are addicted and therefore disregard the warnings, but babies are completely dependent on their carers, so in my opinion it's very important that all carers, including older siblings, have the dangers of a baby's head not being supported explained clearly to them.

It is much easier to remember and comply with a rule if we know the reason for that rule.

Unique Baby Bedding

baby sling

So, you found out you are pregnant.

Congratulations!

Since you know the sex of your unborn child, it will be a lot easier for you to customize the nursery to your liking in a fun boy related theme. To begin, you'll more than likely want to choose some unique baby bedding that is geared toward the young man who will soon be in your life, then decorate the nursery accordingly. Fortunately, in today's world, there are literally thousands of designs to choose from that are colorful and will create a fun and festive atmosphere in your kiddo's room.

Since you know you are having a boy, you will want to make sure you choose from the myriad of male or gender neutral unique baby bedding that is available today. However, it is vitally important for the well being of your child that the bedding you choose is safe. Otherwise, you could be facing a litany of problems that you wish you weren't.

For instance, if the bedding you purchase is too soft, you risk the chance of your infant getting caught in it and suffocating. Even though the bedding may be comfortable for your infant, they are not strong enough to recover from any danger they may accidentally find themselves in; too, they are not equipped to know they are in any danger in the first place so it is your role, as their parent, to ensure safety first.

It's quite simple to do, all you have to do is make sure the bedding is firm enough that it doesn't depress when weight is applied, then you can be assured it is not too soft for your little one to sleep on. You also want to make sure that you forgo using a crib bumper since your kiddo might roll over and get their nose and mouth caught against the fabric which could also lead to suffocation.

Once you have ascertained the safety of your child's baby bedding, the sky is the limit for fun and creative designs. For boys, there is some really cute and unique baby bedding available from cars and trucks, to puppies and ocean and forest themes to everything in between; you can also go modern and do bold geometric designs in different hues that are boy friendly.

Today, the most popular color combination for boys is blue and brown, but any such color/shape combination can be fun and unique with a little planning. Once you have your child's safety taken care of and the bedding chosen, your baby's nursery will turn out to be an elegant, one of a kind masterpiece that will give you peace of mind while your little one sleeps and will give him his own creative space to grow up in.

Gripe Water For Babies

baby sling

Have you just had a newborn baby? Perhaps your baby is suffering from colic, if so you have no doubt heard about gripe water and its uses for soothing colicky newborns. Newborns are medically defined as babies up to 28 days old. This article is about gripe water for babies and whether or not you should be using it to treat your baby.

Gripe Water
This common remedy was first invented by William Woodward in 1876. Back then it was known as a stomach ache remedy and was taken by children and adults. It was then used to treat babies suffering from colic. many argue that Woodward's success was largely due to the alcohol in his formula that caused drowsiness in the infants and relief for their parents. Since then, many brands exist that do not contain alcohol but still claim to promote themselves as cures for colic.

Gripe Water For Newborn Babies

This remedy is not recommended for newborns. Any baby below the age of 1 month in age should not be given this remedy. Most is not all manufacturers do not recommend this remedy for newborns. The reason for this is that a newborn baby is said to have a very sensitive digestive system at this time. The ingredients in gripe water although natural can overload their digestive system and make their colic worse.

If you have a newborn baby with colic, do not despair. There is one remedy for colic that works at all ages and is so simple and gentle that you will be amazed at how effective it is. This remedy is based on the Bowen Technique and the aim is to treat and cure the underlying cause of colic. Not just the symptoms such as indigestion and wind.

Gripe water and most other colic relief remedies aim to relieve the symptoms of colic and not to treat the cause. This explains why these methods have such short term and varied results. It is not possible to alleviate all the symptoms of colic using one remedy, however there is a way of treating the cause of colic and preventing all these symptoms.

Baby Settling Tips For a Happy Baby

baby sling

Here are some ways to keep your newborn baby happy and settled. It can be stressful to watch your baby crying uncontrollably and you don't know why their crying. Hunger and medical health aside it could be that they are uncomfortable. Try these six tips for a happy baby.

1. Check temperature

Especially in the first few weeks your baby is used to a warm environment in the womb and they can get very cold in the first 24 hours. Depending on the time of year you may need more or less layers of clothing i.e.; beanie, bunny rugs or just a singlet and muslin rug, a light cotton rug. You can check the temperature behind the neck or under their arms. When they are a little bit older, a general rule of thumb is for bubs to have an extra layer of clothing than mum or dad. Don't forget the beanie or sun hat.

2. Signs of wind

Sometimes a way to tell if your baby has to burp is look at the top of the mouth (between the top lip and nose) this area becomes ever so slightly grey/blue in colors. Put bubs on your shoulder and pat/rub their back, most times they'll burp. It becomes easier to notice this slight discoloration after a few months and with practice.

3. Use a cover on the pram

Always be prepared for weather changes when having a pram outing. Invest in a rain/wind and a sun/shade protector. They also help keep the sticky little flies and mosquitoes mugZ2V0IGF3YXk=#">away from baby.

4. Pacifier positives and negatives.

There has been a lot said about the positives and negatives of pacifier. If you can get mugZ2V0IGF3YXk=#">away with your baby not having one then go for it. If on the other hand the baby settles better with a pacifier then use it.

Don't confuse giving the pacifier, with them actually needing a feed though. Sometimes a baby wants to explore with their hands and mouth so a pacifier can be a disadvantage.

Don't worry what your friends and relations think, if bubs is happy with a pacifier then you are likely to be happier and get more sleep.

5. Use barrier creams to prevent diaper rash

By using a barrier cream when you notice the area a little red, you can minimize the chance of nasty nappy rash.

6. Teething

The teething process can be painful for bubs. Try rubbing their gums with your finger. Water filled teething rings can be put in the fridge (the freezer is too cold) and the cold can be soothing. Teething gels should be used conservatively. Teething rusks can be used but generally not until from six to eight months should they be used.

Dangers of Over Feeding Your Baby

baby sling

Babies need healthy and nutritious food while they are growing, but sometimes it's difficult to get them to eat the stuff that's good for them. Unfortunately a lot of parents end up force feeding their babies when they refuse to eat. This can lead to a lot of different problems, so let's look at what over feeding can do, and how we can avoid it.

The problems with over feeding your baby can be from vomiting to impacted bowels. Impacted bowls in infants and babies is a lot more serious than in adults. Not only will the impacted bowl damage the surrounding muscles, it can also let bacteria and toxins in to the blood stream. Since a baby has a very weak immune system to start with, this can open up the baby to be susceptible to all kinds of germs, bacteria, and even encourage the onset of certain illness and diseases.

Of course, if your baby is refusing food more than what is normal, you should immediately see your pediatrician. Your doctor should be your next best friend when raising your baby to prevent minor things becoming major.

So what can we do to prevent over feeding our baby? There are signs that a baby will make to alert you that he or she is full. The signals will often be confused with the distaste of certain foods, so it's important to always monitor their reactions.

It's important to understand that babies want to eat when they are hungry. So feed them when they are hungry. They won't eat just because something tastes good, like we do as adults, so you have to pay close attention to their needs. If your baby is younger than 6 months and turns their head mugZ2V0IGF3YXk=#">away from food, then that is a good sign they are full. Just before they become a year old, they may actually start to push the food mugZ2V0IGF3YXk=#">away.

You should always let your baby completely finish a small mouthful before presenting them with more food. This gives them enough time to judge whether they can handle another bite or not. You should try to encourage your baby to eat on their own as soon as possible. This will help their development of hand and eye coordination skills.

Feeding your baby is an excellent way to bond with him or her. But taking it slow and not forcing them to eat is the best way to ensure their healthy. If you feel that they are not eating enough, you should consult with your baby's doctor immediately.

Diaper change after feeding

Giving Your Baby A Sippy Cup

baby sling

At some point before the first birthday of your child, so you'll probably think of him a sippy cup. You might want to give a little 'of water, or perhaps you think to pump breast milk and want to avoid bottles altogether, weaning your child directly to a cup. Maybe you just want your child to a cup the usual preparation for the transition from formula later.

But when is the best time to start? Well, this varies greatly fromBaby, baby. Some children are interested in sippy cups as early as 6 months, while others show no interest at all until much later. It does not hurt to give your child a sippy cup at all stages, although it will need much help at first, especially if it's still very young.

There are many different types of sippy cups on the market and recommend that it is very difficult, the variety "ideal" - as you know, children have their own opinions andPreferences of many things and sippy cups are no exception!

Some models are equipped with valves and ask for your baby to suck vigorously enough. Some children - especially younger ones - do not get so good with this kind of cup and would prefer a "free flowing" spout. While this is somewhat 'chaotic at first, your child can use the idea of what transforms a glass is all.

My Baby Do not drink from a sippy cup, this is very common - and many parentsTo worry unnecessarily that their children are somehow "behind" when not using a sippy cup from his first birthday.

Be patient. It is not necessary that your child drinks from a sippy cup - extra water and juice, usually during the first year of the child, in any case unnecessary.

Do not compare your child to others - all babies develop differently and "sippy cup skills" can not your child's special 's!

And 'Work It Outeventually - but in the meantime, here are a few tips to make the introduction of a sippy cup a little easier...

If he's struggling to get a drink from the cup but doesn't seem to be able to suck hard enough, try removing the valve. Watch out, though, because the liquid will flow far more rapidly.

Dip the spout into the liquid, so that your baby knows what's inside. Don't assume that he will automatically realize that a cup contains a drink!

Demonstrate how to use the cup and display exaggerated enjoyment as you drink... so he really wants to taste some, too! alternatively, have a sibling or little friend use a cup in front of him -- babies are natural mimics and seeing a friend enjoying a sippy cup may provide just the incentive he needs!

Don't introduce the cup when he's tired -- if he's thirsty, he'll become frustrated and upset very quickly. Early in the morning, when he's wide awake, is the best time to try.

Try different kinds of cups and spouts until you find the one your baby prefers. For a first cup, many babies like soft, rubbery spouts, which feel closer to a nipple.

Try using a feeding set with interchangeable spouts. Some sets feature bottles on to which you can attach a regular nipple OR a sippy spout. Your baby may be happier about trying the spout if the bottle looks familiar.

If you are planning on giving your baby formula or breast milk from the sippy cup, then make sure you put milk in the cup when you introduce it to him. If you use water or juice, he may associate the cup with these drinks only -- and then refuse to take milk from the same cup.

IMPORTANT: Allow your baby to use a sippy cup in moderation only. Don't put him to bed with a cup of milk or juice as these drinks will "pool" around his teeth, leading to tooth decay. Always clean your baby's cup thoroughly -- particularly the valve, which can harbour bacteria.

SKIPPING THE SIPPY CUP

Some parents prefer not to use sippy cups at all -- they're certainly not essential and didn't even exist when WE were growing up!

There is some concern among speech therapists that the extended use of a sippy cup can affect oral development and speech skills -- and some parents just find these types of cups somewhat unhygienic, due to the need for scrupulous cleaning of the valves.

Some breastfeeding mothers have found that using the types of sippy cups that require vigorous sucking can cause their babies to latch on a little differently -- sometimes painfully -- as they become accustomed to sucking on the cup. If you are breastfeeding, you might want to consider using a free-flowing spout, or trying these alternatives to using a sippy cup...

Some babies will readily drink from a regular cup, using a straw. If your baby is happy to do this, then cut the straw down to a length that's easier for him to control. Remember -- never allow your baby to walk or run with a straw in his mouth.

Many parents find that "shot" glasses are perfect for babies (used under strict supervision, of course). The size is perfect for baby's little mouth and hands -- and, because it's so small, there's not much to spill if he tips it over!
